the Greek language it is being replaced by the Subjunctive Mood. This is evidenced by the fact that the Optative Mood occurs only 68 times in the Greek NT (see Wallace 480–84). For example, the expression Μὴ γένοιτο which means May it not be! occurs 16 times, mainly in Paul’s letters. This brief presentation of moods will suffice for now.
